Moscow has warned diplomatic missions in the Ukrainian capital of \u201csystematic\u201d strikes on military-linked sites and urged evacuation<\/strong><\/p>\n

The US has declined to condemn Russia over its warning about upcoming strikes on military-linked sites in Kiev in retaliation for Ukraine\u2019s deadly attack on a school dormitory in Starobelsk.<\/p>\n

On Friday, Ukrainian drones struck a college dormitory in Starobelsk, Russia, killing 21 people, mostly young women, and injuring more than 60 others. Moscow has denounced the attack as a war crime and a deliberate \u201cterrorist act.\u201d<\/em> Kiev has dismissed the accusation as \u201cpure propaganda,\u201d<\/em> with its Western backers refusing to hold Ukraine accountable despite ample evidence of its involvement.<\/p>\n

On Monday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov called US Secretary of State Marco Rubio to warn of \u201csystematic and consistent strikes\u201d<\/em> on Kiev\u2019s military facilities and \u201cdecision-making centers\u201d<\/em> while urging foreign nationals to leave the capital.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, Andrey Melnik, Ukraine\u2019s envoy to the UN, shared a joint statement \u2013 signed by more than 50 nations, including Germany and other EU members, the UK, Canada and Japan \u2014 which condemned Moscow over what it described as \u201cescalating attacks\u201d<\/em> and \u201cthreats by Russia to diplomatic institutions.\u201d<\/em> Moscow has never mentioned any plans to target either embassies or any other civilian installations.<\/p>\n

The statement, however, conspicuously did not mention the US.
Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Rubio likewise refrained from leveling any accusations, saying only that Kiev had \u201cbeen a very dangerous place now for a number of years.\u201d<\/em>\u00a0

Under the Trump administration, the US has acted as a key intermediary in Russia-Ukraine talks, although the process froze up amid the Iran war. In March, Vladimir Zelensky claimed that Washington was pressing Ukraine to withdraw from the Donbass region as a condition for providing post-conflict security guarantees \u2013 something Kiev has categorically been opposed to.<\/p>\n

Rubio, however, dismissed the Ukrainian leader\u2019s comments as \u201ca lie,\u201d<\/em> insisting that the US was not \u201cadvocating\u201d<\/em> for Moscow but rather only relaying its stance.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
