Security of vessels passing outside designated Hormuz routes is not guaranteed, Iranian authority says<\/h2>\n

Vessels \u2060passing outside \u200broutes set by the Persian Gulf \u200bStrait Authority, a body set up by Iran to manage the Strait of Hormuz, \u200bwill \u200cnot be guaranteed \u2060safe passage, the authority said in a post \u200con X.<\/p>\n

“Consequences arising from \u2060passage through unauthorised routes shall be the responsibility of the owner, \u200boperator, and vessel commander”, the \u200cPGSA said.<\/p>\n

The PGSA’s warning came after British maritime agency UKMTO said that a \u200ccargo ship reported a suspected attack near \u200bOman while transiting the Strait of Hormuz, with US officials telling Reuters that Iran \u200bhad fired on the ship.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Iran \u200bhas not specifically commented \u200bon the incident. Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said earlier that safe passage through the strait would only be possible through routes designated by Iran, adding that it \u2060would take action against vessels that failed to \u2060comply.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

Hormuz evacuation suspended after attack in Gulf of Oman<\/h2>\n

The evacuation of ships through the Strait of Hormuz was suspended after an attack on a vessel in the Gulf of Oman that had crossed the vital waterway, said the International Maritime Organization (IMO).<\/p>\n

“I have decided to temporarily pause (the evacuation plan’s) implementation in order to reconfirm that the necessary safety guarantees continue to be in place for the ships on our evacuation list and all those in the region,” IMO Secretary-General Arsenio Dominguez said in a statement.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

Iran fired on cargo ship, US officials tell Reuters<\/h2>\n

Iran \u200bfired on \u200ba cargo ship that had reported \u2060being hit by \u200ca projectile as it attempted \u2060to pass through the Strait \u200bof Hormuz, \u200ctwo US officials told Reuters, speaking \u200con condition of \u200banonymity.<\/p>\n

The ship reported being struck on \u200bits starboard \u200bside by \u200ba projectile 7.5 nautical miles \u200bsoutheast of Oman’s port of Dahit, British navy \u2060agency UKMTO said.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
