The US Department of War remains on standby for a full-scale assault unless Tehran accepts a deal on Washington\u2019s terms<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/strong>US President Donald Trump has postponed what he described as a planned \u201cvery major attack\u201d<\/em> on Iran, saying Gulf leaders had asked Washington to give negotiations with Tehran another \u201ctwo or three days.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Trump said the strike had been scheduled for Tuesday, but that he had ordered the Pentagon to stand down for now after Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and \u201csome others\u201d<\/em> urged him to allow more time for diplomacy.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe were getting ready to do a very major attack tomorrow,\u201d<\/em> Trump told journalists. \u201cI\u2019ve put it off for a little while, hopefully maybe forever, but possibly for a little while, because we\u2019ve had very big discussions with Iran.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

The president claimed that the Gulf states believe Tehran is \u201cgetting very close to making a deal,\u201d<\/em> adding that any agreement must prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons.<\/p>\n

Trump also instructed the US Department of War to remain ready for a \u201cfull, large-scale assault\u201d<\/em> at \u201ca moment\u2019s notice\u201d<\/em> if Washington does not receive what it considers an acceptable deal, according to his earlier post on Truth Social.<\/p>\n

The announcement follows a series of threats by Trump, who warned Iran over the weekend that \u201cthe Clock is Ticking\u201d<\/em> and that \u201cthere won\u2019t be anything left\u201d<\/em> of the country unless it accepts Washington\u2019s demands.<\/p>\n

Indirect talks between Washington and Tehran have remained stalled since a fragile ceasefire was established in early April, following a month of hostilities initiated by the US and Israel.<\/p>\n

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has insisted that \u201cdialogue does not mean surrender,\u201d<\/em> promising in a post on X on Monday that Tehran would defend \u201cthe interests and honor of Iran\u201d<\/em> with \u201call our might.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cThe Islamic Republic of Iran enters into dialogue with dignity, authority, and the preservation of the nation\u2019s rights, and under no circumstances will it retreat from the legal rights of the people and the country,\u201d<\/em> Pezeshkian wrote.<\/p>\n

Iran previously accused the Trump administration of taking a \u201cmaximalist approach,\u201d<\/em> while insisting that its nuclear program is peaceful and that it will not dismantle its enrichment capabilities entirely. Tehran has also demanded sanctions relief, reparations, an end to Israel\u2019s campaign in Lebanon, and recognition of what it calls its sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
